We live in a world with so much great software, and it's amazing how much we can get without spending a cent! Today the application we are looking at is Fire Alpaca, a Japanese (localized in many languages) line focused drawing application idea for comic or anime style drawings.

Fire Alpaca is available for download at:

Another feature that you didn't mention and the one I never met in any other painting program is that you can create brush scripts in Lua and make cool stuff with it, like control the behaviour and the parameters of the brush exactly like you want to.

For Japanese style, simple and fast drawing applications, SAI (paid) is probably the most popular. Clip Studio Paint (paid) has also gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Other similar programs include Medibang Paint Pro (Freemium afaik), the painting app by Medibang which seems to share a codebase with FireAlpaca, but actually has an Android version; and Azpainter.

Azpainter is FOSS and for Linux (or Unix-like in general. it's built on Xlib), but before the author moved to Linux in 2011 they maintained a Windows version, which is probably still usable given Windows's backward compatibility.

Krita is still a way more powerful drawing application and its also open source and available on more platforms.

More options in the free application space is always good :-) Certainly there are free programs with more features than this one but sometimes something like this is all you need and those other features just distractions :-) The rulers remind me of CSP a bit though maybe even cooler.

i remember using this before getting a Clip Studio Paint license, it was cool but back then i had a lot of performance issues and wasn't as feature robust as it is now, good to see it still alive and kicking

also you use this over Krita because Krita does have a lot of performance issues, Krita only performs at it's best with a good rig and even when it's old as Gimp it crashes so unpredictably and has just so much bugs it isn't fit for long projects. FireAlpaca feels me more like SAI Paint Tool and that's the reason i used it back then, Krita is oriented to more complex (to the point of impracticality) painting techniques, but even then, personally i prefer MyPaint over Krita

What device do you use with the program? Can't draw on a computer.

Would be cool if you do a video about Photoline some day. That's my actual replacement for Photoshop, specially for the PSD format support, more compatible than any other 2D software out there (except Photoshop of course). It's not free but it's relatively cheap in comparison with an actual adobe monthly license.

Looks a bit like Paint Tool Sai. (also Japanese) In fact it looks like an updated version of Sai.
