Dutch being the reason why his Annabelle was killed is what drove him to lose touch and eventual demise of the gang. His need of “faith” and “loyalty“ from the members is what kept him distracted from the guilt. Once Micah caught wind of this he used it to manipulate Dutch. Knowing that Dutch although strong willed and driven was nursing an insecurity of losing control of that he holds dear, the gang. It was easy for Dutch to question Arthur and Hosea and makes mention of it before they head to Horseshoe Overlook. Conflicted with showing weakness and his fear of not being in control was a fire being fed by Micah. This is what led him to make many irrational decisions and placed the gang into more dangerous situations than necessary.
