Undo or reset Always use this app to open files option in Windows 10

Every file opens with one of the built-in apps in Windows 10 by Microsoft. For example, you may want to set Photos as the default app for a photo viewer. If you are not satisfied with the options suggested by Microsoft, you can look up for additional options in the Microsoft store and choose the one of your preference. Personally, I prefer using the Microsoft recommended apps for better viewing – but your choice may vary and you may have chosen to another app to open a file and selected the Always use this app to open files option.

Now having done that, what if you now want to undo this choice and reset the settings to default? If you have selected some option to Always use this app to open a file with, and you would like to undo this action, then this post shows how exactly to do this.

but what if you have a .skin7 file that you downloaded and you accidentally opened it and it does not load and you want to restore it what do you do

So how do I do this with just one specific file type (and uncheck programs entirely)? I don't want to undo all my settings just because I happened to screw up with one file type.

To reset only one file type, go to settings>default apps At the top it says "set a default for a file type" Enter the file type, for example ".msg" It will show you the current default app for that file type is. Click on the little icon to the right of the app name and a drop down will appear where you can select a different app as the default.

so i was downloading an psd file from my drive and i wanted to open it and i accidentally clicked "notes" and i pressed ok, now when i download a psd file it opens in notes so then i cant use it
