Just bought an i7 12700KF and a B580 Steel Legend. Placed them in a Strix Z790-H. Used an 11 year old Corsair 540 Air cube PC case. Next six years sorted as far as good PC for games and dev is concerned. Also the predecessor to the i7 14700 was the i7 13700 and not the i7 12700. Also the 13th and 14th gen Intel have too many problems. Why risk something that will burn out within 2 years? Stick to 12th Gen and wait for at least 2 years after 15th gen launched. The 15th gen has to be in the field for at least 2 years to prove it will not burn out in 2 years. Also i7 12700 can use DDR5 4800 MT/s. Can also use PCie 5. Turbo boost takes clock to 5 GHz. i7 12700 has been going for 3 years without any problems. It's still being made because it's damned good. It's also very cheap.

Definitely worth upgrading? This is a joke! Perhaps if you unse the aditional E-cores for productivity or play E-sports games at competetive setings where the GPU limites the FPS but regular Gamers will see nearly no difference as in most games the GPU is the limiting factor. Making such a general recomendation will have many how upgrade dissapointed after they see no FPS gain aufter investing in an expensive neu CPU.

The 12700K is better, the 14700K has bad efficency and cooling requirements, therefore a Ryzen 9 is better.

The 12700K holds up better beating current Ryzen 7s overall minus the 7800X3D for gaming. It's a productivity beast and the best chip for streaming at that price point, stays cooler than the Ryzen 7s thanks to the Big-Little design.
