Of 50 states, corruption in Nebraska is demonstrated by not recognizing punitive damages in any way. Only Nebraska has that policy. State Farm Insurance company laughed in my face after 30 years as a customer, they submitted a 100% false doctor's report to deny payment on a claim. I caught them and got it in writing from my own doctor that it was false, and his actual report supported my claim. She laughed in my face when I told her I planned to sue the pants off her, as she informed me of that odd zero punitive damage law. She was correct. I packed up my life and moved to Iowa. Only NE out of 50 states has that punitive damages outlawed corrupt loophole.

We leave because if it's going to be expensive might as well be in a better city or somewhere that has a lot better weather. Nebraska just isn't worth it.

I moved from Denver to Omaha in June 2024 and honestly, I love it here. It helps that my job can be done remotely so I was able to just move wherever I wanted, but even after factoring in taxes, it is just so much cheaper to live here (although, to be fair, I'm renting and did not buy), and Omaha strikes a great middle ground between big city and small town charm, and has an actually incredible local food scene. As someone who has lived in Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Colorado, and now Nebraska, this is the first place I've considered actually making a permanent residence.

Totally agree, my major complain of living in Omaha are high tax and terrible weather.

I moved here from NJ…similar taxes, but Omaha is full of arts and music, easy to get around, and the weather is sunny compared to East Coast…I’m having a great time here….
If you think the grass is greener, you’re not going to be happy anywhere…there’s plenty here to enjoy

Decent roads in sarpy, but terrible roads in Douglas, so much corruption in Douglas but no one ever calls it out.

Your cheeky smile after delivering terrible news at the end of a take was very amusing.

I’m not sure taxes are the issue as much as the lack of high income jobs. College is expensive and management roles sub $60k don’t make sense.

We have a close family friend. Him and his wife lived in Denver for a # of years. They moved to Omaha about 1-yr ago and have recently stated that they absolutely love it. Less traffic, less crime, people are a whole lot friendlier, and the cost of living is substantially lower.

I been here for 23 years. Why can't nebraska figure out how to do 24/7 road construction. If you run three shifts you don't spend an hour at start setting up and an hour cleaning up. That 2 hrs wasted every day. There is plenty to do so just keep the project going

Omaha is a great place to live and raise a family. We have great amenities and great schools. We love living in Millard!

Having lived in Nebraska for 80 years, the weather is a high point for comments. Change is exciting 50 one day 90 the next. The people are our biggest asset. Nebraskans are wonderful to lend a hand when needed. There is no place like Nebraska !

A lot of college graduates leave Omaha. But then, later in life once they wise up, a lot of them end up returning.

No way I saw one of my favorite teachers! I had no idea she made the board of education. I’ll be the first to tell you she is one of the best to fill the seat. I’ve never met someone more inclusive and respectful, while also standing on a decent moral compass than she is.

I moved here from Minnesota, and think winter here is almost balmy.

As one of those young people, most of the people I’ve known that have left have done so because of “opportunity” (like you mentioned), big city or environmental allure, and, unfortunately, the unwelcoming policies of the state of Nebraska (more recently). Young people generally look at rent prices, and not property taxes or home insurance costs, because we can’t afford to actually purchase. While those can be root causes of higher rent prices, young people looking at rent prices from one city to another are not considering the underlying policies that impact it. What we do with that information provides a great opportunity for creative solutions.

Yeah! It's expensive to live in Omaha , Nebraska . But I like to live here. There are some things that does needs to be improvement like public transportation, jobs needs to be more of them in the city, road construction 🚧 is irritated 😑, and not enough houses for Omaha citizens to buy their own house.

Just moved here and there is a lot of things I like but a lot of things I hate. It used to cost me $200 for 2 years to register my car. I paid $2200 for one year on that same car… don’t know how people can afford that. And with those -rices there is NO REASON our roads should be like this, you can blame it on the weather because the state I came from had amazing roads and it’s worse winters then here
