Gregory Baltoro 65 Pack Review

This is my review of what I think is just about the ultimate in comfort in a backpack best suited for 3+ day excursions into the great outdoors. I bought this for myself and just wanted to show you some of the features. Yeah it may be a pound or so heavier than some of it's competition, but it's well worth it for the comfort. Cheers!

I just bought a pack and this was one that was in the running. In the end the only thing that stopped me from purchasing it was the price. For this being my first backpack I was leery of the price point. I really did love this pack when I tried it on and walked with it for a while. It was extremely comfortable and have tons of room.

Nice pack demo.

Thanks for the video. I had narrowed my purchase decision to either the Osprey Aether 70 or the Baltoro 65. I will go with the Baltoro. Thanks again.

Very interesting review, thank you! I am considering getting this exact bag for a year long round the world trip (including lots of hiking).
Thank you for sharing your experience.

At REI today, I walked with 35 lb in an REI Flash 62, an Osprey Aether 60 & a Gregory Baltoro 65, for 20 minutes each. My comfort ratings: Gregory 5/5, REI 4/5 Osprey 3/5. The Gregory padding did a great job of spreading the load on my hips. The pack did not ride on my buttocks. Heavier, but for me, the comfort issue overrules the weight issue.

Took home the Gregory, used the 20% dividend discount, saving $60.

Happy Trails

Thanks for the review. I'll pick the Baltoro 75 with the biggest volume in its series

I just purchased my Gregory Baltoro from Backcountry today. They matched Moosejaw's price of $239.00 which can be found on Amazon marketplace by searching Gregory 65 and then searching on the moosejaw page when it comes up

Really stoked on getting this great pack for a great price. Backcountry also has a return policy similar to REI which helps if you buy something that doesn't fit right.

@Xarcas Thanks! You won't be dissappointed with a 75. The suspensions on these are so comfortable. If I had to buy one over I'd probably get the 75 liter. You don't have to fill it, but it's there if you need it. Airports are a pain in the butt now a days.

Well if you're looking for a good hard use pack, generally it's going to be significantly heavier and made out of higher denier fabrics, like one's from Eberlestock. Arcteryx used to make one for the military called the ILBE pack that's pretty bombproof. Anything with 1000 Denier cordura will last forever but will weigh more. I just ordered an Eberlestock Battleship, it's 420 denier, and about 9lbs just for the pack, lol. They make the "Destroyer" that's closer to the sice of this Baltoro too.

I just got back from hiking the black ridge crest trail in NC with the z55 which is a great pack but sure wish I would have had the baltoro any how I will be testing it out on my Mount LeConte trip in the Smokys next week cheers

If you're going to have boots and shoes, a bulky towel and sweat pants and gifts you may just want to be safe and get the 75. THe 65 is expandable as is the 75 on top too, but they wear pretty much the same. All the miscelaneous smaller items will fit in the pockets. Good luck though!

This will be much better for you then. The Baltoro supports the low back very well. Just pack it light and it won't be heavy still.

Good choice! In hindsight, that's the one I would have bought too. Thanks for the comment. :)

You bet! It's a good one, that's for sure.

@backdraftmagnet I don't think you could call it waterproof, water resistant though. All the fabric is coated on the inside for water resistance.

Thanks! I think this is the back I'm going to to with!

@dafringe Thanks! I would think you'd be fine with the small, it still has adjustments beyond the main size. It would be a great first pack I think. This is probably my 6th or 7th pack, and the best so far, so you'd be doing really with this as a first.
