One correction, yes it has a Retina display with same PPI as a 4s, but it’s also the same PPI as the iPhone 8, and 7 as well, so it’s not a step backwards.

I replaced my SE (still have) with the XR. Granted I have big hands, I love the bigger screen and would not go back to something that small, like the SE.

I was blown away with the battery life on the XR. Went from a 6s+ where even new I had to charge during the day, but I’ve never ran out of battery on the XR

I’ve been using an iPhone X for over a year now. I like it, but I’m not blown away. The Xr wasn’t, and still isn’t on my radar. I like the oled display too much to go back. Honestly, the entire phone market to me is really just blah right now. I’ve been debating trying the note 9 just for a change, but I like iOS. I wish something new and innovative would come out, and be released in the states. I guess I’ll wait a few more months.

newer iphones are too expensive even though i have an iphone xr. kinda difficult bc at school (high school) i felt pressured to have an iphone. a lot of my peers and friends have iphones and i would be made fun of for having an andriod and constantly felt left out when people would airdrop pictures of answers or assignments. not being able to facetime my sister who lives in korea was disappointing but now i have an iphone to do that and we facetime pretty often. i truly enjoy it and am not too upset about getting it other than the price but that's over and done with. notch isn't a bother, i kinda like it. overall a good phone but i'm not tech savvy so idc as long as i feel less left out than normal and included, my mental state improves for the better. just depends on ur personal preference

I been through android and iPhones. I currently own an iPhone 6s Plus and will not replacing it anytime soon.
I always use my phone for over 5 years (my last phone was an iPhone 4s and it’s slow on iOS 9) and loved the fact it was up to date for a long time and concluded most android phones only updates for 3 years.
I’m not saying androids is bad as I used some (I bought many Android TVs too) but iPhones are great for my particular needs which is to use a phone as long as I could it’s a no brainer to go for an iPhone even if it’s on the expensive side (you have 5 years to save up anyways 😂)

Finally replaced my 4.5 yr old 6 plus with one about a week ago, $200 trade in so a reasonable cost for today's phone landscape I suppose (6 plus was only $200 when i got it with contract). For what I need it's a very good upgrade and they have greatly fixed their update process, easily restored from backup and nothing missing.

I upgraded from the iPhone SE to the iPhone XR. And my experience with the phone has been great! I use my phone a lot for emails and I can edit lesson plans in my Google Drive a lot easier on the iPhone XR than my iPhone SE. I am glad I upgraded and couldn’t be happier with the experience!
