The idea of protecting bees from the wind is great, and I really like the perforated version of the cathedral design. This could be used to make an observation hive. Let's build it with rigid, transparent plastic with slanted edges in red. Since warm air rises, the heat loss from these openings may not be significant. Alternatively, for insulation, an additional removable cover could be placed on top. Bees cannot see red, so while we observe them from both sides, they won't be disturbed. Additionally, mites falling from bee to bee will pass through the fine mesh grid and fall outside the hive. To ensure proper ventilation and hygiene, let's not place leaves on the ground, and instead, use a finer mesh to prevent small yellow bees from entering. The only challenge is making the powdered sugar mite drop method easier. We need to find a way to simplify this process.

If the entrance is on the end bees can defend it against robbing because the guards can stop robbers getting past the first comb. also queens prefer to lay near the entrance so if you want the brood up one end instead of at the bottom of most of your combs keep the entrance at the end.
