Imagine a universe where Nintendo encouraged fangames and even had fangame themed directs…

The Metroid 2 thing reminds me of how Nintendo shut down that Mario Royale then proceeded to release pretty much the same game themselves.

0:42 this is what i love about sega, they don't want to sue fan game developers most of the time, they are chill with fan games, animations, comics, mods

every developer is scared of nintendo nowadays

Sega: “Wow, that Sonic fan game was really good! Keep up the great work.”
Nintendo: you can’t just make a Mario fan game, that’s stealing!!!”

Honestly, I wholeheartedly believe it's a pride thing Nintendo's got going on. I wouldn't be surprised if they think that fans making better games than what some official products end up being like is something to be ashamed of, and so that shame drives them to stamp out any legitimately good fangame based off of any of their IPs.

Finally,

Conner calls them fan games, and not bootlegs

When I saw the Super Show characters on the thumbnail, I thought “uh oh” because it was shut down.

The Virgin Corporate Nintendo:

Hates fan games, employees stalked someone because they emulated a 3DS, hates Smash Melee

The Chad Nintendo Fangames:

Are pretty good!

(Also I have played Full Screen Mario, and it was on a School Chromebook!)

You know what Sega says “Sega does, what Ninten-don’t”

Nintendo is nothing like Sega. Sega appreciates the sonic fan game community while Nintendo gives a goddamn cease and desist

Welp that’s one thing “sega does that nintenDON’T” actually encourage fan projects and not have to destroy something nice just because it’s better

Great video sir. Glad to see you getting back to your roots and making better videos again. It felt like you were sort of calling it in for a while and I’m sure you were burnt out. I can’t blame ya. Anyhow, I hope you’ve been reinvigorated and continue making great videos like this in the future. 👍

I actually feel different about the AM2R shutdown. I love AM2R, it is easily my favourite fan game yet. The fact that it was shut down sucks, however, it conveniently happened just after it was finally completed.
To me it has always felt like Nintendo, or rather some employees at Nintendo allowed AM2R to be completed. I had been aware of AM2R for a few years already at that point, so it seemed unlikely to me that no-one at Nintendo knew of it prior to its completion.
I can't say whether Metroid: Samus Returns creation had anything to do with the existence of AM2R. But it does seem likely to me that Nintendo "had to" take AM2R down because of their own remake.
At the end of the day I'm really glad we got both. It is interesting to see two different approaches to remaking the same game.
I personally found AM2R more fun to play, but I am so glad that Metroid: Samus Returns led to the eventual release of Metroid Dread.

Think of all the creators who actually appreciate fan games like Concerned Ape, Sega and Scott Cawthon. Those people are heroes and idols for so many people and Nintendo just shuts them down which is so heartbreaking, instead of shutting them down HIRE THEM! They do way better than Nintendo's trashy attempts (namely a certain trilogy port of their most famous character that flopped severely and one of the games weren't even in full screen)

fun fact: the creator of Terraria, Red, actually made a Mario fan game before Terraria existed, it was called Super Mario Bros. X, and one of the features it had was a level editor, Nintendo of course being Nintendo shut it down

The main two I actually see where Nintendo is getting at is Full Screen Mario and the Super Mario 64 HD thing. They're basically copies of the original games just with either a longer screen or updated graphics. Sure Full Screen had the level editor but the core is Mario Bros 1, and the other is literally just Super Mario 64 on Unreal Engine. Interesting concepts sure, but they also made them both publically available for everyone to play, and when their core is the actual games, that does present a problem. As much as I do wish they released the games in a way where its easier to get standalone, they are in the right for those two.

My favorite is Pokémon Uranium because it honestly hit a soft spot for me as a Pokémon fan

I feel like a few people have mentioned this before, but Pokemon Brick Bronze was pretty impressive for me. It was a completely new region (i think it was called Roria?) and while it didn't have new Pokemon or regional forms and stuff like that, I really loved its story and aesthetic, even for a Roblox game. After PBB's shutdown, the team behind the fangame decided to make ANOTHER fangame under the name of Loomian Legacy, which is still up to this day. It works pretty differently from regular Pokemon, and has its own Pokemo-ah, sorry, Loomians, to call its own. It's still being updated today, to my knowledge, so you can go play it right now-
