Great drill. Keeping the trail leg straight makes the ”banging” in the shot so much more natural and easy to perform. Have tried lots of other early extension drills without success but this was a game changer. Great details explained by Trevor as well. Thanks!

Great Lesson and makes a lot of sense. Off to the range!

Super helpful. As someone who lifts trail heel too early in downswing, other drills didn’t work (path become ugly, etc.). Simple way of practicing. Thanks, Eric.

Love this concept. Makes so much sense as to why I straighten up in the downswing. Especially with longer clubs ie: driver

I've tried a lot of different feels to try to fix my early hip extension (without success) and I was almost resigned to it being a permanent part of my swing, but this video has immediately changed that. Even better than just trying to drive the right knee directly towards the left knee (ie not crossing the toeline), I'm also keeping the right knee low and feeling like my right heel stays on the ground for longer. With that, I'm puring my 8 iron more consistently than I've ever been able to in the past 25 years! Thanks so much!

Simplicity is beauty and the sound of strike is phenomenal - this is one incredible drill..!
Thanks dudes,

I recently learned, albeit through another YT instructor, the trail hip does not/can not get closer to the ball. Once I realized this I immediately had loads of room for my trail elbow to travel and I was able, for the first time ever, return the handle to the setup position at impact. Such an amazing feeling. Eric, great information as always... Trevor, really enjoy your input as well! 🤟

Excellent video and is a complimentary video to another featuring Trevor Salzman titled, "What REALLY Causes Early Extension? (And How To FIX IT!)." This is part of the Eric Cogorno Golf videos, but oddly Eric is not in it. This video focuses on setup and has really helped me staying in balance. I think Eric and Trevor have good on-screen chemistry and watching these informative videos is a pleasure. Thank you for these excellent videos.

Whats good about this is, I can do it in My living room while watching football. Good drill prep work for The winter time.

I’ve been told by guys I’ve taken lessons from I slide my back knee towards the ball causing me to lose space in my swing which in return made me have an over the top swing I’d have a terrible ball flight to the right just all around very poor contact I’m most definitely going to take this lesson to the range and hoping I get some results! Thank you gentlemen!

Serial early extender here. This video was a game changer for me. Probably helped that I'm a trail leg straightener too...

Literally inside a dozen swings with the ball under the foot it has helped me discover the 'feeling' of pivoting the hips vs turning them (no apologies if that only makes sense to me 😁), which in turn allowed me to more easily clear my lead hip vs my trail hip going toward the ball in the downswing. Instant room.

Got any drills for backswing width?

Great video. Would love to see shot tracer data during your sessions (shape, speed, , carry)

I like the Rick Smith, drop your left foot back drill. Much better for my hips.

I'll give this a go. I tend to get too early on the trail toe ala JT. This should help. I sense some toe shanks in my future....😢

Great video, Eric. What if you play with a closed stance, does that help with the knee?

43 year old 6 handicapper irl here. I’ve always just played by feel and never analyzed my swing on video or anything. Took the deep dive this year as I’m getting older and committed to be as good a player as possible. Always struck the ball pretty good with good distance but realized I’d been practicing early extension for more than 2 decades.

Dudes, I’ve watched many dozens of vids trying to fix coming out of posture. Been hitting daily for 3 months and had more than started to give up hope. Watched this one yesterday- went and tried it today- AND was able to stay down!! I almost felt like crying lol. F-ing golf.
Didn’t need to use the foot ball but just keeping that trail leg almost straight from the top kept it from moving out towards the ball so my arms had room. After 60 or so swings I shot my best round yet in our sim league. It’s not totally fixed quite yet but I’m sincerely confident it won’t be long before the flaw is history. Can’t wait for winter to be over. Thank you!

I like the concept of having your trail hip turned deep behind you, but I would never straighten out my trail leg to do so. Maintain your knee flex while you let your hip work backwards.
