I was a flag marshal at the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. This is from entry at Turn 9 - my view point from the weekend.

I was there at that race and something that cameras don’t pick up is the sound of the air being disturbed as the cars go past you. It has a deep bass tone and is something you can feel as the car goes past. It was surreal.

i actually love the sound of the current generation and i think this video does a great job of showing why it's so cool. despite the fact that it's not as loud as the older generation, there is so much depth to the sound and the quieter engine noise helps you hear deatails like the turbo and the loud honda backfires.

When your actually at such an event, you clearly see the effects of downforce upon the cars sticking to the road as otherwise traveling that fast around turns would see to them flying off the track crashing into the barriers. F1 is the most extreme to this effect. Indy street circuit races are way way slower than F1, But indy is faster than f1 in their large oval settings. The effect is even very visable in GT racing series.

Nothing beats standing just ahead of the Braking Point for Turn 3 (which is a right angle+ corner) at Albert Park, you hear them coming, they fly past, the deceleration is as extraordinary as the speed (and the disturbed air makes a sound that is surreal) and they enter the corner and gone in the blink of your eye.
