The fastest way to easily export an Autodesk Revit model to Rhino (Rhinoceros 3D). Learn how to speed up the export/import process from Revit to Rhino and fix common errors. Exporting from Revit to Rhino is an easy task to perform, but some users get stuck on one or two vital settings that need to be configured. Let’s learn how to export from Autodesk’s Revit to McNeel's Rhinoceros 3D.

If you’re interested in designing some really cool things with Rhino, with the ability to document them using Revit, check out the full course here:

First of all, open up your Revit project to a 3D view. You can only export a model from Revit if you are in a 3D view.

Next, ensure your model is clean. This relates to removing any unnecessary complication of your model, including levels, section boxes and unwanted geometries.

Exporting from Revit stores all information from walls, floors, roofs etc and puts these on layers when importing the model into Rhino.

When exporting from Revit and importing into Rhino, there's no need to group or layer objects as it's done automatically for you.

After cleaning up the Revit model, go to a 3D view and select file → export. Export the file as a DWG.

In the export settings popup, go to "Solids" and choose ACIS Solids.

Now open up Rhino to a 3D View and go to File → Import.

From the drop down menu in Rhino, select DWG files and locate the files you want to import.

I hope you have found that helpful and can successfully export your model from Revit to Rhino!

Another Architecture student here, forever grateful to you for this video. I was wondering what your workflow would be to render the final rhino model? is it to enscape or lumion? how is the rhino file prepared? is it to apply the materials in rhino first? and which one do you think is better? Many thanks again!

Hello I had a Question can I import my Inventor Autodesk file in rhyno and vice a versa. Or would I need to turn my inventor file into a revit file then import into rhyno?

Hello, great video. I am curious, does this convert the materials applied in revit over into rhino as well? Or just the surfaces/objects?

Great video! How would I go about this if I had everything transferred over to rhino from Revitt except the topo map. Does it just export some objects while not others?

Rhino does not support IFC files, which is a neural file format. Very surprising.

The most frustrating thing about Revit is trying to get the materials and textures to export as well. I know there are plugins but I shouldn't have to pay a yearly subscription for them just because I need textures.

This import cannot be manipulated. You cannot work with it further in Rhino
