조성진은 에튀드든 마주르카든 폴로네이즈든 프렐류드든 걍 뭘 쳐도 저 특유의 고상함이 절대 안없어지고 다 느껴짐. 진짜 지문같은 고상함. 이 곡은 정말 과장않고 한 30명이상 버전으로 들어봤는데 조성진꺼는 진짜 독보적임. 걍 아름답고 기술같은게 전혀 안 들릴 정도로 그냥 그 음악 자체만 들림.. 이런 재능을 동시대에 보다니 정말 행복합니다~

I never tire of listening. Just compare it to all the pianists on YouTube. Seong-Jin Cho, in addition to not making mistakes anywhere, plays without rushing, he has precision, he clearly and perfectly conveys the feeling of ecstasy of this wonderful work by Chopin.

무한반복해서 듣고 있는데, 시작부터 계속 피아노에서 여인의 음성 같은게 들려요. 슬프기도 하고 아름답기도 하고 그러네요.
매일 조성진님의 에튀드로 하루를 시작합니다. 이 곡은 새소리 같기도 하지만, 때로는 비장미가 느껴집니다. 하지만 무엇보다도 조성진님의 연주여서 특히 더 아름다운 것 같습니다.

이 연주의 특징은 왼손에 있어요. 왼손을 매우 단순하게 눌러버리면 곡흐름이 건조해져요. 귀가 정말 발달한 피아니스트인듯 해요. 기계처럼 들릴 수 있는 둥-둥- 왼손으로 누르는 음들 각각에 다 다른 강약와 호흡과 감정을 넣어버리는.. 살아있는 연주를 위해 도대체 얼마나 연습했을까요

I’ve been obsessed with Seong Jin Cho’s performance of this piece for awhile now. A lot of people compare it to Ashkenazy’s but I don’t think his is as good. Ashkenazy’s performance of this piece, like most people’s to be honest, is so mechanical and lacks musicality. It’s like he’s playing a Czerny exercise or something. It’s so harsh and bangy. Seong Jin Cho has such expressive and beautiful phrasing, I really haven’t been able to find anyone who plays it quite as well as him.

This was such a legendary performance. Post-Chopin 2015, you could hear piano majors all around the world imitating Seong-Jin Cho's 10-1 phrasing.

No other pianist can replicate the melody intricacies on passages 0:35 and 0:53 like Mr. Cho did. I don't really care how fast other famous pianists approach the etude and how clever they control the pedal, Mr.Cho did something magical with those passages by really voicing out those beautiful inner minor melodies and at the perfect tempo. When it comes to harmonizing this waterfall etude, I just think Mr. Cho is in a different echelon than the rest. He is unmatched.
