The way I understand it from SS info, is the 2/3 is reduced from the state pension, (TRS here in TX) NOT from your spousal benefit from SS. So my SS spousal benefit minus 2/3 of my TRS benefit equals my SS monthly benefit. Is that correct?

Is Indiana one of them..? Thank you!!
My husband was a fire fighter.. retired. When he retired at 67. They said”SS cut his SS by 40% !!! Said Robert didn’t deserve that plus his pension from FF”. He worked 2 jobs for 35 years.. and they took it away from him!! We were escorted out of SS building in Bloomington Ind.
My husband ask where the rest of his SS money was going!! They told him not too worry about it!! He was HOT!! So be prepared!!
Thank you

I’m 56 and on SSDI. I have a 12 yr old son with disabilities (his SSI stopped and he’s now getting dependent benefits under me). I’m technically still married and he’s 57 and working but in declining health. Also, I’m have a federal govt pension waiting in the wings.

What are my possible scenarios? If my husband dies (we’re married over 10 yrs), will only my son get benefits? When I can collect my pension, will I no longer get SSDI? I have these questions and more but don’t have anyone to ask. TY🙂

If the spousal benefits are not enough is there somewhere a teacher (or anyone for that matter) could go for extra retirement help?

BUT there is a GPO exemption. And you can get it working in Texas. You have to work at least the last 60 months of your career putting into both TRS and SS. There are schools and universities that do this in Texas!
