The Mind Meld That Changed Spock Forever | Star Trek: TMP

When Spock melded with V'ger, a series of images were flashed across Spock's visor, but at too great a speed to make out the individual images. I've slowed the footage down in order to see exactly what those images were. They contain a surprise that actually appears in this short's auto generated thumbnail.

As if I needed more reasons to love the movie. Tying Spock's character arc into V'ger's character arc is truly a thing of beauty.

While that is the image from the Pioneer plaque, elements of that plaque did appear on the cover of Voyager's golden record. Including the the diagram defining the location of our sun relative to 14 known pulsars, and the diagram of a hydrogen atom. I'm guessing the producers opted for the more recognizable Pioneer image since it included the depiction of the male and female human beings.

Cool video! Star Trek the motion picture is epic: Everything from the tagline, “The human adventure is just beginning” to the whole concept of a probe from late 20th century Earth reaching to the farthest limits of space and knowledge. The film carries Trek’s original spirit forward to the 70s and 80s! Thanks for making the video. I loved learning that the
Pioneer/Voyager 6 plaque was actually seen by Spock during the meld.

does anyone else think Trek writers missed the boat not tying the borg with v'ger?
i was fortunate my dad took me to see to the motion picture in '79. when i first saw
the borg in STNG my first thought was that they were the ones that modded v'ger
and sent it on its way.
