The "identity of the format" in regards to banning Sol Ring is really just a cover. The actual reason is that banning Sol Ring would be a logistical nightmare, as almost every precon ever printed would now be illegal if played right out of the box - which defeats the most fundamental point of those products. They're simply in too deep.

actual power level bans in edh is crazy. I think this is the first fast mana ban since channel in 2010

cEDH is where this will make the most impact, agreed. You likely weren't investing in these cards if you played casually. But it does bring a major discussion back on the table - to how high a degree should the banlist take into account the needs and opinions of the cEDH community?

My favourite part about the bans is the amount of people upset about losing money rather than considering the game might be more fun now.

Not me, who just bought a dockside and has a jeweled lotus and mana crypt.

As a casual CMDR player I saw them every few games from other players considering themselves casual. This will greatly improve my experience and address many players in my sphere.

Why can't they just say "Sol Ring is in every precon so before we ban that we want to push for WotC for not putting it into new precons for the next year or two but we're definitely pushing for that"

I’ve played against Mana Crypts and Docksides many times in what would be considered casual games. On one occasion I even ran into a Jeweled Lotus. This won’t be inconsequential bans for casual players, these bans will be noticed.

That was the reason why I stopped playing standard 20 years ago. This is so stupid. We can only have one card per deck in commander. The whole format is already balanced. The ban is just a stupid attempt to control the format. Every single person I spoke hates it. People that hates standard found only in commander a format to still play cards without loosing money. Now we need to rethink if it os worth giving them our money

I had jeweled lotus in my chiss-goria deck. It was no where near a competitive deck, no combos or anything, but a perfect inclusion as caters to the 3 red pip commander cost and is an artifact. So this change has implications to casual decks in some cases.

There is a massive problem with it. 4 to 5 other sets were built around those cards as Chase cards. The boxes went for super high value of those cards in it. The cards were in it. They printed to the ground, so the value dropped in those. Straight from the source we were still paying double what was actually worth it’s basically saying anything we buy a value can be instantly taken away oversaturated the format with stuff coming out close to every two months on top of that, they have power format so much worse things than manic crypt, dark side, and Lotus nadu was the only one I agreed with because it made the format go on for 40 to 50 minutes on one person turn that one made sense but the other ones didn’t make any sense. I took them out of one of my deck and my deck still ran just as good

I think they’ll really push now a new community-started individual ban list for cEDH. If it comes to pass, then prices for all these could possibly level out. Not saying this is something that will happen, but if it does, it would be its own logistical nightmare.

The economics of the situation is the most important to consider. 1) There's 99.999% chance that insider trading occurred 2) MTG has pretty mediocre investment confidence rn, so any hit should be unwelcome.

Jeweled lotus is kind of my only issue here. It just punishes people who like high cmc commanders the most and these little 2 drop commanders get such a big boost again

The only reason any of these bans happened especially Crypt dockside and lotus is a desperate attempt to slow down the game. The game is increasingly getting faster no matter what format you play due to power creep, just like any card game. This ban is a bad attempt to artificially slow down the game to preserve the gameplay the rules committee enjoys. Pub stompers will still stomp and cedh will still be busted and slow down at most 3%

CEDH needs its own format this ban sucks rule 0 always worked for me no need to screw over everyone who got a lucky pull traded half their collection or out right bought these

Just a friendly reminder to those who say who cares if your card is banned, you can still play it, if you bought a 200$ card yesterday that today is selling for 2$ that’s a major feel bad. You don’t have to like fast mana to have sympathy for people who lost huge value in cards that they bought to play with, that could have been spent on other cards.

Pulled a D.E back when Double Master with 3 other of my buddies with split a Colloctor box ..real shame

Picked up crypt about a month ago, so that hurt. Jeweled Lotus was my first big pull from CM draft and so I've loved it beyond belief. Put in all my decks that needed them. Now, it's just an expensive treasure token.
