For anyone who doesn’t see the ‘Check for Updates’ option in ‘Help’, open settings (Ctrl + comma) and search ‘update mode’. Then, set the update mode to ‘manual’.

You can also set it to ‘start’ if you want it to update on launch. If it’s set to ‘auto’, it will automatically update so you don’t need to do it yourself.

if anyone doesn't see the 'Check for updates" option from the "Help" tab is because you are running VSCode as administrator, try to run it normally and it will appear there.
