Love it! When I was growing up, there were no handicap parking spaces. Nevertheless, my father always taught us to park far from the store, because the person in the next car might be grandma, who can't walk the extra 100 feet as easily as I can. He also taught us to return our shopping cart to the designated area, which is apparently beyond the ability of many people today.

The town I live in, there is a bunch of kids that troll the local car parks, hunting for cars parked in handicapped spots with no blue card (UK equivalent of a placard), and letting the air out of all four tires. I bought them a set of pressure gauges with built in barrel removers to make their job easier.

This is a different Karen story. My sister has MS, and handicapped plates on her van. Her husband parked in a disabled spot and proceeded to unload her power chair. Karen started screaming he couldn't park there without a placard. He showed great restraint by unloading the chair, shutting the liftgate of the van, pointing to the handicapped plate with his forefinger, and doing what came naturally with the next finger, all without saying a word.

Experienced that early one Saturday morning a few years back when I stopped to use an ATM at a bank. Two people already there using both ATMs and parked in the handicapped spaces right in front of them. I parked in a regular space about 50 feet away. Police car comes through the lot, stops in back of both cars (blocking them in), asks to see some handicap placards, neither had one and both got citations (amazing how fast a cop can write a citation these days!).

I LOVE it when, in response to their being filmed, the Karen gets out _their_ phone to record the other person (this includes cops pointing out that their body or dash cam is recording also). My response to that is "Good, now we have TWO recordings of you being an asshole!".

I am disabled, and have had a handicapped tag for many years. There are folks that disrespect the handicapped parking all the time. Only once did I confront a lady, and she immediately turned it into a racial situation which had nothing to do with it at all. It has nothing to do with the fact that she was parked in a handicapped space, without a permit, and certainly healthy as can be. A simple sorry would have solved the situation. But it scared me so much that I have never dared to confront anyone else. People are basically selfish, and dangerous.

I'm a dialysis patient at a clinic (in the state of Washington) in a strip mall area. Each parking spot has a sign that informs people these spots are for patients and not to park in them between 8am to 5pm. I'm a rarity (I'm 59), most of the patients here are elderly and handicapped (wheelchairs or walkers) so, having close access for us is a must. When the place first opened its doors, people would park in our spots though, once they saw the sign would move but, more often than not some wouldn't. One time in particular a woman parked and walked across the way to the tanning salon which meant she'd be in the spot for around 45 minutes or so. I called the salon and told them I was a patient at the dialysis unit and would they ask the woman if she would please come back out to move her car from our MARKED spot. She did but, shortly after called the unit to complain that someone here had demanded for her to move her car. She informed the nurse that she was allowed to park anywhere she wanted. Her reason for this accessibility... SHE WAS A LAWYER!!! It may be a fact, she can park wherever she needs in her work as an attorney but, I don't think that includes when she has a tanning appointment.
