In a TV interview on August 17, 2021, the Taliban declared an “amnesty” across Afghanistan and said the group is ready to provide women with an environment in which they can work and study. The statement stood in contrast to the Taliban movement's rule from 1996 to 2001, when women were deprived of many basic rights. Under Taliban rule two decades ago, women were not allowed to work or go to school. They also could not travel unaccompanied by a male relative and they had to cover their faces while out in public. Those accused of breaking the rules faced serious punishment and torture, including public beatings and executions. Taliban forces gained control over Afghanistan as the US withdrew its forces ending a 20-year military presence that started after the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.

The scariest part for women in any era is when the men starts talking about women's rights and decide what women should or should not do. I'm a Muslim women myself, and often times these radical Muslim male leaders uses religion to introduce oppressive rules. The Islam religion have a lot of respect for women, but it's always the human who picks and choose what best serve their purpose.

seriously, does anyone trust the Taliban's words? Their actions speak volumes...only time will tell. But I still feel really sad for all the women and girls in Afghan. Hope for the best, but expect the worse.

Aren’t the cultural values outdated and laws written by man? Not sure I would trust this guy as far as I could throw him. I feel bad for the Afghan people.

Those "sending prayers to all the afghan women and children" should just stop. They do not need your prayers, they are already praying for equal rights and to be treated as human beings.
