Woman dies after BBL, now family is suing plastic surgery center and doctor

Thirty-three-year-old Erica Russell, a mother of five, left her home in Tennessee in 2021 to travel to Miami for a Brazilian butt lift, or BBL — the plastic surgery procedure that has one of the highest mortality rates.

“Like many folks across the country come to Florida and seek to have these plastic surgery procedures,” said Stephen Cain, a partner with the law firm Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain, who is representing Russell’s family.

Russell had the popular plastic surgery at Seduction Cosmetic Center on SW 8th Street. State records show her surgeon, Dr. John Sampson, entered the operating room at about 6:32 that morning and performed six other surgeries before Russell's procedure, which began at about 8:31 in the evening.

She willingly choose that surgery, it has risks including death in a certain percentage, she must have been informed, she signed informed consent form before her surgery. There was no malpractice, doctor is certified and has performed several.

They cant win the case. It is sad that she died. Such a waste of a life.Why risk your life for a BBL?
That being said, it is time the medical councils of all countries place a ban on BBL and make it illegal for doctors to perform. Enough of the deaths and complications

I don't want to be insensitive because I imagine her family is in pain. The issue here is this lady, a mother of 5, was willing to risk her life for something so foolish. These procedures have a high mortality risk. The money she paid for this surgery could have been saved for her children's education. Prioritizing a BBL is pure ignorance. The only awareness that needs to be increased here is the awareness of having self-love and eliminating the selfish desire of plastic surgery.
