I do keep a little bit of water at the bottom of the containers my tillandsia sit in because I think it acts in the same way as a pebble tray, keeping the humidity levels a little higher around the plant. I don't let the plant touch the water at all. I soak my tillandsia weekly and fertilize once every month to six weeks with a weak solution of orchid fertilizer. They seem to be doing well.

How do you fertilize them? Mines blooming right now, very similar to the ionantha shown, but I'm not sure if their self pollinators. Thank you

Can Tillandsia be grown under artificial light?
I keep poison dart frogs which means I have a number of terraria and paludaria that simulate rainforest floor conditions and they can't be exposed to direct sunlight because of radiant heating inside the vivaria so artificial light is my only option.
All the other tropical plants I have seem to thrive under artificial light (tubes that emit the same spectrum as the sun) but I don't currently have any air plants and would like to add some.

Do you have to let your tap water sit out before using it for watering?

The roots on. Air plants do not take in moisture. The roots are only for anchoring.

I bought an air plant in a glass globe. I was surprised to find that it was actually glued to the red moss and the whole thing was stuck to the globe. Will I damage the plant if I try to separate it from the moss?

We have had some Tillandsias for about 30 years. They just sit in pots basically on top of the potting mix. They are outside and the conditions range from hot and dry to cool and wet. They get very little fertilizer and very little watering, so they basically look after themselves. They flower 3 to 4 times a year. The only attention they really get is when I separate them when they outgrow the pots.
