The Epidemic of Loneliness

Показать описание
A crisis is emerging that seems likely to pose as grave a threat to public health as obesity or substance abuse: social isolation. Neuroscientists have identified regions of the brain that respond to loneliness, and a powerful body of research shows that lonely people are more likely to become ill, experience cognitive decline, and die early. Across the industrialized world, millions of people live with sparse human contact, putting their well-being at risk as they put new pressures on health and social service systems. Does social media drive loneliness, or help to cure it? How does loneliness alter the brain, and how can we treat this condition?

I fear no one will read this, but i absolutely disagree the the black panelist when he said that people are lonely because they eo not take advantage if technology. However the premise was that it was not concluded that aocial media/technology the cure to loneliness. Well if its not the cure for lonliness why would someone turn to it. The basis of a cure for lonilness lies in something else other than many social media networks

Thank you for this excellent information on epidemic I searched for this ONE' on YOUTUBE for awhile... Realizing in the search how good this ONE really is ..
This panel is spot-on, not knowing all the answers, although acknowledging the seriousness.
when I first tried to find it again a bunch of TED talks came up. Which are good although, this one is excellent in a different way, . on addressing loneliness/isolation, aging.. now at any age !
So I am so Glad, I found this again.. with coronavirus epidemic is the icing on the cake of this isolation /loneliness.
This is a down-to-earth group of healthcare professionals, with the understanding and bringing hope, light on a dark subject, that has been epidemic for a long time.. although the healthcare professionals are shedding a light, talking about the unspeakable subject that has become epidemic over the years.
I lost my mother to manic depression/ loneliness, suicide in 1990.. she suffered greatly even had electric shock treatments, so many times, & psychotherapy .medications.
Thank you, YouTube !
Along with this special panel of healthcare!

The lady at the end was amazing 😂 really enjoyed the whole panel though! Some insightful points were made and the panelists all did a great job of answering questions.

Disgusting to listen to. That's the problem.. everything is academic or science. No heart no feeling. These people are a prime example!!
" metanalysis "?? Give me a break. People are more interested in stats and research. Why are humans studying " loneliness"??
Anyway get some real lonely people to talk on the panel.
I feel sick..

Women on the extreme left does an infuriating amount of umming and aahing. The woman on the extreme right isn't much better. Don't these folk get training in public speaking?

Did you hire the audience members? It sure looks that way. Designed as an exclusionary tactic for anyone not present at your egotistical theater to promote lonliness
