its a tie, but Japan wins if you want a car that will drive and not give you troubles. sounds like get a bmw if you want to look cool in your driveway, get a toyota if you want to make it to your destination.

If I want a German car, it better be made in Germany. If I want a Japanese car, it better be made in Japan. Always check the VIN for W (Germany) and J (Japan)

I have BOTH. My japanese cars are for everyday driving and walmart runs. My BMW is my toy and is pretty much a weekend vehicle and a reminder of why i work everyday - so i can have toys!

My friend owns a independent mechanic shop, he is the only one in the area willing to work on German cars, I had never seen a water pump made out of plastic before till an Audi came in for service lol and of course it was leaking and the replacement part from the Audi dealer was made of aluminum . Another car came in for struts all around and it had Mercedes adjustable struts all computer controlled, cost was $1500 each strut just for the parts ! The owner not wanting to drop the $6000 plus labor said he was just gonna sell the car instead

Everybody knows Japanese cars are better. German cars are just for image and the owners think it's normal to pay lots of money for maintenance and defects.

I am a German and honestly I would pick Japanese cars since I made good experiences with Toyota, Honda and Subaru. It's what you said already: repairs for German cars are complicated, time consuming and very costly. Especially replacement parts which have to be ordered from the car manufacturers themselves. Also, the German car industry is very exploitive so I am not really a fan of scummy buisness practises at the expense of the consumer. If anything, I would pick Audi or VW, because modern BMW and Mercedes cars pretend to be luxurious at a higher price, when in reality they have questionable compartment parts, features and design flaws in different cases and different models also again at the expense of the consumer. Avoid Opel/Vauxhall (UK).

German cars are left with brand names only. Japanese cars are way superior in quality and minimal maintenance

If you hate your money and REALLY love driving, but a german car. If you love money and love driving, buy a japanese car.

Japanese engineering the best, they make good quality if they want

we don't worry about money if we can afford german cars... we worry about speed, safety, structurally solid, thickest body panels for dent resistance, better paint quality, louder engines, handling, overall performance...

The only times when Japanese cars beat german cars are cheap tunability, and reliability... And i don't buy car for reselling it. I buy car for myself to enjoy it.

I'm an owner of a Honda Jazz....an ex- mechanic etc. You presented an accurate and balanced comparison which I agree with....many thanks. One last thing, an opinion only, but many drivers of German cars push them harder than Japanese owners which may be the cause of less reliability and higher maintenance costs. I am 70+ so no ego and happy to stay in the slow lane and meet the racers 10 minutes later (ok I'm boring!)
Happy motoring to everyone whatever you drive😂

In my experience, Mercedes Benz make reliable cheap to service cars.
I usually buy them when 10 years old for not much money, run them for 5 years and sell them on.
I do most of the maintenance myself but use an independent for anything I can't do

I would be happy with a car that was less than reliable so long as it was easy and inexpensive to fix.

The less complexity, the less electronics, the better. Thats what I hate about modern cars. Complexity that makes them throw-aways. Planned obsolescence should be outlawed.

Both countries have produced several models in the 1990s which were offered in both 2-door coupe and 3-door liftback forms. This is what Dodge should be doing with the new Charger, since most fans don’t want a liftback but Dodge still wants to offer it.
