Maybe you are getting equity research job interviews or portfolio management job interviews, and you aren't getting called back after the first round. Or maybe you aren't even getting equity research job interviews or portfolio management job interviews in the first place.

Here are probably the 3 things you are doing wrong:

1. These are highly coveted positions and everyone wants them. Everyone sounds the same. Have a personal brand.
2. Analyst careers typically don't emphasize interpersonal and leadership skills – be the person that they can see putting in front of a client. This moves you from a cost to a revenue producer.
3. Specialize. Get a quirky little niche and know everything about it.

I'm not going into an analyst role. I'm studying to become a programmer but your explanations and specific examples are so helpful for my job search and learning focus.

Very useful information, you don't just state the obvious, you provide solutions to this problems.
1. I don't know how I will try to have personal brand but I will figure it out.
2. I will try to understand clients in a cultural level, I remember seeing a scene in a movie called "Wall Street: Movie never sleeps" and he manages to keep the clients interested in his idea/investment by knowing their clients culture, in this instance their Chinese client's culture is more about manners than business, so he offers them a gift and even speaks in Chinese. ( I know that those are movies but the idea is good in my opinion).

3.I will specialise in my niche, always been interested in the video games industry, for 2 years I have been looking at the news in video games even computer manufactures such as Intel and AMD.

My problem is that even summer internships are extremely hard to get, even when it requires you to know an extra language ( already have 4 so no problem), is there a way I can get more experience? I don't really care about the money at the moment, I like the job and if you like your job, then it's not a job anymore.
Should I mention that money isn't my main concern that I would work under a lower pay? Is that a good way to get an advantage? Or is it sign or weakness/risk?
