All rulers of the Visigothic kingdom (410 - 711)
Показать описание
From an earlier gothic group, the Visigoths moved, settled, fought against and with the Romans during the Ancient and Middle ages. Their path will lead to the creation of one of the most important and influential kingdoms of their time, and especially for the Roman province of Hispania (Spain and Portugal).
The map shows all the territory controlled by the monarch at the end of his reign.
A few notes about this video:
One of the kings that appear in this timeline, the one called Hermenegild (Hermenegildo), is not accepted as the official king or successor of his father Liuvigild (the king Leovigildo).
Although his son proclaimed himself king after a rebellion against his father and gained support throughout the peninsula, most historians do not consider him an official king.
At first, the Visigoths were "foederati", this means that they were allies of the Roman Empire, but they did not have an independent kingdom from Rome. Later that was achieved with King Walia.
I decided to put Alaric as the first king of this video, since he was the first king proclaimed in a Visigothic kingdom.
Some say that Athanaric was the first king of the Visigoths, and that might be true, but since he was considered more of a "foundation king" or tribal judge than an actual monarch, I decided not to list him.
During Amalric's reign, he ruled for some time under the regency of Theodoric I (Ostrogothic kingdom). The Ostrogothic king did some ruling tasks but always in the name of Amalric.
During Liuva's reign there was a period of dual monarchy between him and Leovigild. I didn't put that in so the video wouldn't be too confusing. After all, it's just a tiny and irrelevant detail.
