Indulging desires does not lead to greater well-being. Studies, including the Harvard Study of Adult Development, show that quality relationships are the strongest predictors of happiness. Such relationships require sacrifice, discipline, hard work, time, and commitment. Unlimited freedom and indulgence do not foster well-being; instead, optimizing quality relationships does. Families are the best environment for cultivating these qualities, making them essential for optimal well-being. Thus, the degradation of family relationships is the cause of immense suffering faced by all levels of society."Happiness in family life is achieved through faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreation." Morality has always been a problem for religion. A theist individually can be moral, but has no way to explain through faith why any act is right or wrong.

“Does this outfit make me look fat?”

Subjective morality absolutely exists—natural occurrence frequently pits values against each other. Discernment is required in assigning weight to mutually exclusive values in any given situation and deciding where to land in between those values.

Thus, core eternal truths are more directional than the dogmatic landing spots frequently asserted by LDS and other religions. The LDS instinctively know this situational subjectivity very well, as we’ve recently seen many support the Church’s controversial actions in financial dealings and sexual assault reporting under the reasoning of promoting other values (e.g., religious freedom and privacy).

Failure to recognize the directional influence of true principles results in a rigid, take-it-or-leave-it application of eternal truth that favors those who naturally fit, and causes people to question God over the arbitrary and capricious nature of what’s being done in His name. This is especially worsened in belief systems where teachings expressly forbid or discourage open discussion of oppositional truths. Think “it’s wrong to criticize leaders of the Church even when the criticism is true.” I’m confident that generational thinking will soon fade and will not be remembered warmly by future generations.

More incoherent rambling from Jacob. Jacob you're a moral relativist who sold out to a corporation. Also at 10:15 you inject a little of your own spice which has no root in the LDS cannon. You're an interesting contradiction.

I didn't get the part about debunking subjective morality. What I saw was a subjective argument for objective morality. See even objective morality is subjective. It only becomes objective if it is agreed on. Which is subjective. All judgements are subjective even objective ones.

Both podcasters struggle to understand the difference between descriptive and normative moral claims. For this reason, Jacob misidentifies objective moral standards. Human nature is variable and is always relative to an individual and cannot become an “objective standard” for right or wrong - it just is.

It's very strange to me that one conclusion drawn here is that it's morally right for a sadist (murderer) to harm others. This view only considers the wellbeing of the sadist, not their victims. If wellbeing is the objective moral standard, than it's still objectively wrong for a sadist to enjoy harming others no matter how much pleasure they get from it.

I get no answers from God, and I’m so isolated from both him and friends.
I can’t meet a girl, I really just feeling I’d be better off without being religious.
As I’m just not getting anything, and I do ask.

I don’t even know what denomination I should be Sam Shamion is amazing at debating for the Catholic side.

I feel I’ve wasted my life I’ve been waiting for the right person to marry and I’m now in my late twenties.

I don’t know what to do?

Your scripture is chalk full of God making commands based on subjectivity.

Thou shalt not murder...unless a nation may dwindle in unbelief.

Thou shalt not practice polygamy...unless God deems it necessary to raise up seed.

Your founding prophet was quite convinced that morality was subjective. He spoke very clearly on the matter.

2 things
1- Your title is misleading you didn’t debunk subjective morality you just asserted that’s there is objective morality. And debunked athiest objective morality at best.

2- it’s self evident that indulging in your desires doesn’t bring about well being. Perfect example is food consumption.

odd video.. incoherent. .. Jacob is a bad atheist. He talking in circles which doesn't make sense. Morality is indeed "Subjective". What an individual views as "Moral" is all in their head thus subjective. What's in their head may have been put there through external sources such as the society they live in and the value propositions they were raised with. For instance, cannibals, They had a value proposition within their society where by eating their enemies led to greater good for their tribe. That's Morality did not originate external to the minds of the tribe, but within them.

Jacobs claim that a person with same sex attraction is because of some external objective source makes no sense. A persons attraction is 100% mental and thus subjective. Morality becomes codified so to speak when you have communities that share the same value propositions thus a moral code develops within that community.

As a believer, I have no problem acknowledging my beliefs are subjective. I can choose to believe that God revealed a "Moral" code through prophets, , but that's my subjective belief. The prophets could have just been using their imagination and I am just choosing to believe otherwise. It's all subjective.. So I don't get the purpose of this video.

I don’t think the creator recognizes here that Mormonism has a monist, materialist metaphysic—at least classically speaking, they believe SPIRIT IS MATTER—just purer than the more basal forms we are experiencing in the “mortal” realm, currently; it denies the immateriality of matter (D&C 131:7, 8) and this diverges greatly from orthodox Christianity here…and for whatever reason, nearly all Mormons forget this scripture and it’s philosophical implications…effectively they think like dualists, which is doctrinally false.
Given this, the creator doesn’t realize this places them essentially on par with any other non-Mormon materialist—at least on the superficial level he is conceiving. This has the consequence of demolishing his own Mormon world-view and morality via his own argumentation.
He also is guilty of the unfortunate, stereotypical conflation of atheism with materialism; given that, he’s likely conflating atheism with several other unrelated positions.

I don't think God is a perfect standard of morality. It is aming at a moving target. The rules are put there as the steps towards a goal, not as the goal themselves. Ultimatly, it looks like love, and not obedience. It is not "obey God and obey yourself like your neighbor".
So even if "wrong" from the point of the rules, a think might turn amazing.
I think that loving existence (the feeling of being) is the hardest part. I think trans people still have a place in them searching for love and trying to love existence. I would take more offense form those who thing existence shoud cease to be.

But there is no moral law . Not straight across the board . Morality cannot be objective, because morality is opinion based .

Love your channel Jacob. But you haven't debunked subjective morality. It seems you don't understand subjective morality.

Only through his prophets? Not by his own laws and actions?

So you don't care your god ordered and condoned slavery, misogyny, stoning gays, genoc1de and r4ping virgin girls?

How did you determine your moral standard?

Is every lie immoral? What about whaling?
