The PzKpfw IV was not 'the' workhorse of the Panzer Force. Roughly 8, 500 PzKpfw IV were produced from 1936 to 1945, while roughly 6, 000 Panthers were produced between 1943 to 1945. In the early years it was the PzKpfw II and then PzKpfw III that were the workhorses and later in the war it was the Panther, along with the PZKpfw IV that held that role.

Pzkw IV was equal to the Sherman, so thank God the Germans dumped money into the Panther and Tiger, instead of more IV's
