My granddaughter knows this method: Substitute x=4+z and y=4–z into the second equation. (4+z)(4–z)=16–z^2=64, which has roots z=±i4√3.
Thus, x=4+z=4±i4√3 and y=4–z=4∓i4√3

4 + 4i sqrx( 3 ) = - 8w^2 = 8( w + 1 )

x^3 - 1 = ( x - 1 )( x^2 + x + 1 ) = 0

w = ( - 1 + i sqrx( 3 ) ) ÷ 2

x = { 1, w, w^2 } , w^3 = 1
