Chevrolet Aveo hatchback review - CarBuyer

The Chevrolet Aveo boasts high levels of standard equipment, and a new, motorbike-inspired interior. The funky rev counter and LED speedometer add a sporty touch to the Aveo's cabin, while the coupe-inspired styling, including hidden rear door handles and aggressive headlights, adds even more kerbside appeal. The Aveo is more practical than the excellent Suzuki Swift, and with prices set to undercut many of the class leaders, Chevrolet has created a tempting package. A new diesel version should also be one of the most frugal cars in its class too.

Hi Rebecca, I must say that I really like this review! The flow is natural & comfortable :)

I like how u make comparison with others cars and show us the equipments and practicality of the car in an orderly way.

Most of all, I appreciate that you touch on the design, which is rare in carbuyer reviews.

That's great to hear!
I have mine since October 2012 and only have 5500km (I use public transportation when it's possible).
But it's great to hear that at 15000 km, the car haven't got you any trouble!

Great car for a good price. I've had it over four years now since new and have had no problems. Shame Chevrolet no longer sell in the UK as I would have bought the Cruze next.

I actually prefer the styling of Aveo and that Chevy badge. Much more interesting than a Corsa. I'm sure people who aren't checking out the Aveo are missing out on quite a few things. After reading your comment, I'll defo add this car to my shortlist. I was looking for a Seat Ibiza or Mazda 2.

This looks like a really good car to pick up. My only concern is that because Chevrolet are no longer trading the UK, with the exception of Camaro and Corvette, is that the parts will now be expensive to get hold of if something goes wrong.

Here in America, this is called the Chevrolet Sonic. It is the replacement for our Aveo. This is a much better car than the old Aveo.

Carbuyer:Josh, what a lovely car. Can I rent your car for a day?
Josh: Thank you. Sure.

We bought the diesel one of these last year as an ex-demo, had done 500 miles. We had no problems wit it for the first year. However, in it's second year we've had nothing but trouble. Every time we start it, it bongs, and an error message comes up on the dashboard. The engine warning light also stays on. It's been to the dealer to be fixed at least 5 times, but it's still doing it. We also don't even come close to 78 mpg, we average 53 combined. However, it's easy to drive and cheap, so it's ok

The Aveo name appeared in the US. I rented one on Kauai a few years ago. It is a fun car to drive, and it is a lot easier to see out of than many contemporary cars. Luggage for two were no problem.

Saying the back seat has ample leg room for adults is arguable. But as a car for 2 or 3, this is a good car, at least when new.

Finally, now that Ford is bailing out of passenger cars, and Fiat-Chrysler may do the same, and GM world cars like Aveo may have the North American small car market almost to themselves.

nice video, but the mpg in the 1.3 diesel will actually be around 54mpg for anyone thinking about one. I personally love mine though. Best wee car I ever owned!

wow the US version "sonic" is so much nicer than what you guys get in the UK, but you get a diesel i just wish they brought them here.

I agree that its a fine car. Its let down a bit by the old Opel engines though and in particular the entry level 1, 2 petrol. Which simply has no power at all, when you get into 5. gear. But luckily GM is already working on a whole new generation of engines to replace most of the current ones.

Mat is still there but I think the two of them make a good tag team and present very well with these reviews.

78.4 British MPG = 65.282 US MPG. Still very economical.

Smaller displacement engines, diesel engines, and larger gallons. If the diesel makes it to the US, the emissions equipment required in US diesels will knock the mileage down nearly 10%.
