Wait, wait, wait, you’re telling me that this kid (at the time) was convicted starting from a “mix up” of mugshots and having the same name? So there was literally NO physical evidence against him. And the detective LIED in court?! And the police KNEW they had the wrong Sheldon Thomas?! Let’s think about this: it took zero physical evidence to convict a person of murder. This is ridiculous. The detective should be imprisoned for perjury and all the others involved should be fired, stripped of pension, sued for false arrest and prosecuted for kidnapping.

Pains me to think how many more people are sitting in jail wrongfully convicted

That detective needs to be brought up on charges. God bless this young man with a great future.

An apology is not enough; compensate him. Best wishes to Sheldon for a bright future.

Hope the state is ready to pay him 20 years worth of missed opportunities and emotional distress.

*It’s sad that he was probably convicted & sentenced in 1 year. Then exonerated in 20 years. Our legal system is weird.*

You can tell he has the soul of an innocent man who was severely wronged. I hope he has an amazing life now.

Having the humility to go through this and be able to forgive everyone involved in putting him there is strength beyond words

Sheldon, our hearts go out to you and your family. We pray that the injustice that took some of your best years does not sour you. Look to the future and live a fruitful and full life from this day forward. God bless you

A GoFundMe needs to be set up for this man. An attorney needs to be provided to sue the state also. He is good hearted, but someone needs to look out for his interests. The family of the murdered victim need to seek justice also. All participants who knew this was a lie need to now be imprisoned.

Why did it take so long - this is shocking, I hope they compensate him well.

No amount of money could restore the years this man lost; justice, however, would be a 7-figure settlement and prosecution and imprisonment of the person or people on the Prosecution team who allowed this gross injustice.

Oh dude no way, the "officer" who lies needs to be sued. Money can't make up for this innocent young man's life taken from him, but the "officer" needs to be held accountable. This is inexcusable

Bring tears to my eyes 😢, as a mother to a young male child, I wish him the best and he is still young,

An apology will never be enough to make up for what happened to this man, this man lost 20 years of his life
