They were called simply installers where I live, since windows wasn't something that really changed how we used a computer.
MS-DOS programs also had installers and Amiga OS software too.
Steam and appstores are installers too. They check the dependencies each software needs and can install additional things or run proper installers when you launch an app.

Wizards cannot be replaced by an App Store, beecause they are different things. A wizard is an UI concept which can be used for other things just then installation processes.

package managers, like the standard on linux, brew on macos, and winget on windows, are more secure and efficient than downloading wizards from the top search result that may or may not be an attacker using a sponsored result posing as an official site, such as what happened to OBS a while back
