In the previous championship, we all know Wesley smashed Magnus. Less noted is that he actually got rekt by Hikaru in the quarterfinals, then narrowly won the repechage (vs Peter Svidler) to pull through. Hikaru was destroyed by Fabiano in the last day of the QFs. This is to say, Fischer Random is definitely a lot more volatile with its crazy positions. We can't really put favorites that easily. Given positions might match this or that player's brain patterns better, there's no telling who will be the more fortunate.
