Well, as far as I remember, Nightcap introduced in PvZ Heroes, not BFN.

This is very similar to what i always thought to be the lore, but i have to mention a few things:

1. I don't think PvZ Heroes is canon to the main timeline because it retcons how Super Brainz was created in GW2

2. Just to add to the details, but there seems to have been multiple Zombosses throughout history, because in the colizeum map in GW2, it shows a statue of Julius Caesar, but also that he is a "Zomboss"

I always saw it as the zombies gave up Suburbia after gw2 and went after neighborvile instead thats why there the invasion has already happened insted of in progress of happening like gw1 so i guess the plants were not prepared after taking back suburbia idk
