Recently I was given this beat up / broken Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Laptop for free. The screen was snapped off and the chassis had been snapped/cracked in several places. After putting it back together it was better than you might have thought :)

I had a friend that purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad with an i7-2620m and 4 gigs of ram. He upgraded the ram to 8 gigs, and replaced the 500 gb 5400rpm HDD with a 128 gig SSD. He spent roughly $250 on his, which is a really great deal considering low end laptops (or as I like to call them, craptops) start around that price for nowhere near the same level of performance.

Just found the exact config online, it was the Lenovo ThinkPad T420. ;)

Who uses trackpad when you have a trackpoint. I disabled mine.

My mom had a ThinkPad slightly older than this one with the older ThinkPad keyboard and damn was it ever an excellent machine! Aged far better over the 7 years than you probably think it would. They’re such good machines.

If I had the money, I would definitely go for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. Such good hardware.

I have the tablet version of it. Can confirm, it still performs well today. I used to also play CS:GO and League of Legends on it, at 900p to 1080p on an external monitor at 60 fps, lowest settings of course.

I'm rocking the x230 myself with an intel i7-3520m, 16 gb ram and 1 tb 850 evo pro that I got for 300 dollars. Quite impressed.

I actually got this same laptop for free, only mine was in good condition. I am currently running Linux Mint on mine. Works like a charm...

i still use this laptop as my secondary mobile thinkpad, its light, portable and durable.
bump the ram to 16GB, 500GB samsung SSD, new lenovo genuine 9 cell battery, and good to go, reach easily 9 hours for normal usage in a single charge. totally road warrior.

The best part is, with those looks it is highly unlikely someone would try to steal it.

On the other hand if you are willing to spend a few bucks you can always shop online for spare chassis/carcass parts to rebuild the casing. Here in Latin America there is a popular site called "Mercadolibre" somewhat similar to ebay but exclusive to the region, in which used computer equipment/parts sell almost for nothing in some

My middle school gave me this laptop for free. It runs smooth and it came with windows 10. But the box in the charger heats up alot. Overall the video quality and all that stuff is really good. Wish it was 64 bit rather than 32 bit.

My current main work computer is a Thinkpad X250 (2015 version of that laptop). Absolutely love it. Plan to keep it as my main computer for at least another two years.

I still wonder that why do you still have just 22k subs? Your content quality deserves at least 200k subs

Have been using the X220 for the past couple of years. Almost the same specs too, the only differences being a newer SSD and a 2nd gen i5. I have to say it has been exceptionally good.
I needed a laptop good enough to use it as my main computer while a computer science student but also small enough to be able to easily move it around (in classes, transport, holidays etc). Its performance was really amazing. I also installed Linux (Ubuntu had no hardware incompatibilities apart from a minor bluetooth lock that was easily fixed) which was a huge plus considering speed, utility and that their desktops perform well on lower display specifications. Nothing in its price that I know of comes even close.
What I have to mention though are some minor problems that after 2 years started to accumulate and made the experience somewhat worse. The strength of the Wifi is really bad (my 3yo cheap smartphone has a greater range) and the speakers volume is considerably low (again even in comparison to my smartphone). Additionally, by now the laptop gets extremely hot and the battery life has decreased considerably as well. However, have in mind all those hardware issues refer to a similar model that was bought refurbished, runs Linux and has been used extensively.

I can confirm the trackpad was equally terrible when new. I had one of these as a work laptop for 5 years and the damn thing was indestructible. I've dropped it, sat on it, it even survived a motorcycle accident. The thinkpad 13 it was replaced with had a smashed screen within a month.
