Linx ~ You're Lying 1981 Jazz Funk Purrfection Version
Показать описание
Growing up during the disco era provided me with the opportunity to hear all kinds of music you could dance to. During the rise of disco on radio say 1974, I found a jazz radio station WLBS in Detroit MI that played jazz funk, a new fusion that often had really great beats. The Blackbyrd's "Walking In Rhythm" is jazz funk, Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness", Ramsey Lewis "Sun Goddess" only scratch the surface of the genre that boasted artists like Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith, Hubert Laws and Tom Browne. There is a super collection of those songs on Mastercuts Classic Jazz Funk series, and I listen to them all the time. I found this song after one my followers suggested it, back in 2011. It did peak at #71 on the Billboard Disco Chart. Its a jazz funk styled dance tune that came out of Britain with David Grant, Bob Carter, Andy Duncan, Peter Martin, Canute Edwards and Junior Giscombe. Giscombe shortened his name to Junior and had a major hit with "Mama Used To Say" in 1982. Singed to Alves Records, they recorded a one off single "You're Lying" for the UK in late 1980 and it peaked at #15. By the time Chrysalis Records picked up world distribution rights for the song and signed the group, it was reduced to the duo of Grant and Martin. Their first LP "Intuition", released in 1981 had "You're Lying" and their biggest UK hit ever with "Intuition". The story goes the group benefited from repeated video play during the BBC technicians strike, which allowed for music videos and repeat performances already committed to video and propelled the single to #7 UK. A second LP, "Go Ahead" was released in late 1981 to little fanfare and diminishing returns. Linx split for good in 1983 with David Grant having much success going solo and ended up being a vocal coach on the BBC Fame Academy.
