Fun fact for those who weren't in the live chat in the premier: this song is what Jasmine was strumming on the instrument in the scene where Jasmine and Aladdin are in his place at the beginning when they had this moment where he's like my mom taught me that song and shes surprised and says "mine too" and they just have this brief moment of just... wow we have *that* in common at least

😭😭😭It was cut because it doesn't fit into the storyline very well, that's what I heard. I think this is the scene when Jasmine was waiting for Aladdin at the agreed garden, but Aladdin was already captured so he couldn't show up. The movie might not have enough time to show this masterpiece as it doesn't contribute too much to the storyline, or the sentiment of it will not match with the scene before and after it very well. This could have been one of the BEST Disney songs in history. SO SAD!

It this wasn't cut from the final film, it could have solidified Aladdin and Jasmine's relationship more as they seem to have a connection already from their first meeting.

My reaction was the same, this song is INCREDIBLE. When I heard it after the movie came out I was obsessed, I loved the harmonies and especially how they flipped back and forth for who sang the main one. Gorgeous!!! I feel like this scene fit so perfectly in the movie because of the longing and emotion, I wish they didn't cut it.

I think they cut it because of time. Also, it's the song that Jasmine play on the "guitar " in Aladdin hideout/place and they both say "my mother use to play that song "

I appreciate how "Aladdin" was essentially a sleeper hit; no one expected the music to be as good as (or better than) the original and for the film to make $1 billion.

I'm actually trying to rewrite this song for another couple (not aladdin related in any way in the couple or the storyline) for a fanfiction so this is a happy coincidence that you are reacting to this today!

I can't believe how I've never heard this song before! I was so into the live action movie when it came out and had Speechless on repeat, how have I missed this song??! It's beautiful and I would have loved to see it in the movie. I understand if they cut it for story line reasons though, it's not pushing the story forward really in the same way other songs do, but as other commentators have said, it creates a connection between them. I need to find this song now!

I was so mad they cut this cuz it's such a good song (slightly better than Speechless 🙊), and I get the pacing issue...but it also shows their connection to their mothers.

As for the lack of dynamics in Meena's singing, while nice and clear (i think he was a choir kid), he's not a vocalist like Naomi. So, he's physically not used to it nor knows how or when to artistically create those moments. It does kinda reflect the difference between Aladdin and Jasmine's social status, that he does enough to get by.
