Robert De Niro is a legend, but since the 2000s he's been in a LOT of bad movies. So... what happened to Robert De Niro? How could one of the most iconic actors of all time have a such a poor choice in films later in his career.

In this video we talk about the highs and lows or Robert De Niro's career and some of the events that led to his critical demise.

One of my favorite movies starring De Niro is actually from the exact era you are talking about here, The Intern. It’s not his best movie, but it’s so nice, funny and light-hearted that it stuck with me and became something I resort to during hard times

I used to love the guy as an actor, but his almost psychotic approach to politics over the last few years has put me off.

But he said he had fun doing these movies. Perhaps he didn't want to be typecasted and wanted to try other roles.

The reason is pretty simple, it's not his ex-wife (possible exception of the last 2-3 years), it's his involvement in establishing the Tribeca Film Festival, starting in 2002. He's also a real estate mogul/investor, and has at least several properties in Tribeca. That's why he's been taking the best checks since then, and why he may be "cash poor" lately with his ex-wife, because he spends it nearly all on real estate.

The wife perspective made me feel good otherwise I was aslo thinking what he is done in this 2 decades !

Better to be starring in a bunch of bad films with occasional good ones like De Niro than starring in a few films that are consistently subpar like Pacino.
Edit: only talking about their films since the 2000s

I think he was funny as Hell in Last Vegas (De Niro, Douglas, Freeman, Kline, all those great old farts seemed to enjoy themselves big time!), as Paul Vitti in Analize this, and Showtime (Eddie Murphy & De Niro = The most Odd Couple ever?!)
You forgot to mention Awakenings, Cape Fear and The Score. But I'll admit; his Frankenstein was a parodic disaster.

"Everybody's Fine" is actually pretty good. Up until "The Irishman" (2019) I'd say "Everybody's Fine" (2009) was his last great movie. "War With Grandpa" (2020) isn't too terrible either, I liked it. "All About My Father" (2023) looks pretty funny, too. But I agree, most of his films past 2000 are absolute stinkers. Still a legend, though!

I think he did Shark tale in 2004 only because he desired to do a kids film since his films (even though loved by millions of fans) aren’t for kids

Imho....# 1 The Deerhunter and Taxi Driver are tied for first... Wow just wow, brilliant performances ...# 2 Mean Streets # 3 Raging Bull # 4 Bang the Drum Slowly # 5 The he started with the gangster rolls, he became, not as fascinating an his early lean years, he was remarkable..

There was a time when I admired De Niro. No doubt he is a talented actor, but when he behaved as he did I’ve President Trump, it really didn’t sit well with me. Whether you personally like someone or not doesn’t bother me, but when you show yourself to be a bully, that does bother me. I haven’t seen anything that he is in for several years. I don’t watch any of his re-runs.

You need to cool it with the stock footage clips.

Nice video and I agree. But the stock video footage of people acting surprised and stuff gives the video a cheesy touch.

Not sure why everyone hates Robert for trying different roles & different acting. Dirty Grandpa is just awesome way better then Johnny Knoxville's version.

He just didn't want to act anymore.

What are we talking about here!? They weren't GFather 2 or Dearhunter, but they light-hearted fun and overall good films. E.g Meet the Fockers etc.. Analyse This and That. But then he does Joker and the Irishmen when almost 💯 years old. What else can you ask of a guy? Look at Al Pacino, that a guy u can feel bad about getting up there in years. He hasn't done anything since Devils Advocate. Basically this was factually incorrect, regardless of what the critics think, those movies were generally liked by audiences.
