Finding Percentiles Using the Standard Normal Table (for tables that give the area to left of z)

preview_player
Показать описание
I work through some examples of finding the z value corresponding to a given area under the standard normal curve, using the standard normal table. If you fully understand how to find values in the standard normal table, this video will not be of much use to you. The table used is one that gives areas to the left of z (the cumulative distribution function).

Thank you very much. I put an awful lot of time into these, in the hopes that I can help people better understand the concepts. I'm glad to know that there are some people out there that find them useful.

I took your stats course in Guelph in 2013, now I am a third year dental school and am still using your video as a guide, thanks so much!!!

The example in the video involves an area of 0.025, not 0.0025. You are correct in that P(Z < -2.81) is approximately 0.0025.

Alright- here is the question I cannot figure out- "Find the value Xc for the normal distribution with the mean of 45, and standard deviation of 15 such that the area to the left of Xc is .25. Answer using table, AND then answer using calculator statistical form." I get two completely different answers when I use the table rather than the calculator! Thoughts?

Where did you find the table, I can't find it. Please Reply ASAP I need it today.

Indeed it's a very useful video. Sir, I couldn't get why we need to divide 0.05/2, since we subtract 0.95 from 1 which is the total area under the curve? Isn't it enough to do the subtraction [1-0.95]? Can you or anyone help me in that?  Thank you.
