My wife will wonder why I've ordered biscuits and sunglasses, but she will understand when she hears the power of my new melody.

I figured out how to write in a romantic piano style quite easily.

Step one: write a simple major melody
Step two: make it minor
Step three: ornament the heck out of it

And that is my 'how to be a cut price Franz Liszt' guide

24:15 to me this illustrates how important instrumentation is to the melody. The horns give the same tune a Completely different feel, and it really comes alive. The same is true with vocals too, I could sing "Shape of You" and it would not be the iconic melody that it is when Ed Sheeran sings it. Melody and instrumentation have to be considered together!

Sir, so many schools need music teachers like yourself. You bring such skill and enthusiasm to the table.
ps... It's my job to change the duvet covers. The wife stands there and laughs at me as I do it. Seriously. The amount of times I've ended up inside and struggling (the duvet cover, not the wife)

As a composer myself, I can really relate to this amazing video. The way you try bashing some notes, explore interesting ideas, reject boring ones. When people ask me how to write good music, I tell them to not be shy, just try some things. You gotta start somewhere. With practice, you eventually start to see things, which speeds up the process a lot.

Great video! Hope it inspires people to just go out there and create music!

Guy, I am not a musician, or even pretend to be one. I am just fascinated on how your mind works. I am extremely intrigued on how you can "hear" things in your head, and finally compose it into full orchestration! Your awesome knowledge is so inspiring to even me who does not understand 1 thing you talk about. I continue to watch in awe. You are truly an artist and you seem to enjoy your craft immensely.
Kudos from across the pond!

My ADHD brain loves you so much, thank you so much for being so colourful, informative and entertaining! Interesting to wonder how different my music career would have been if I had a teacher like you when I was a kid... Never too late to learn though, thank god :)
