A great joy for me to release this brand new recording of Brahms Concerto with dear friend and colleague Gábor Takács-Nagy conducting the wonderful MÁV Symphony Orchestra (Budapest) on 25 October 2021 at Kodály Centre in Pécs, Hungary. All cadenzas here are my originals which I have written.

This concert was a full Brahms program, where the master's 2nd Symphony was also conducted by Takács-Nagy.

To me, Maxim has the best performance of Brahms, as well as Sibelius. Truly incredible violinist, but more than just technique, he brings a unique tone and musicality.

I felt lucky to be there, he even played for us two extra pieces after this, if I remember well. :)

I have been listening to Vengerov since I was young, for over 25 years... He is one of the greatest virtuosos in the world. Thank you for the excellent concert! It is a real pleasure.

For many years, i hear people say this or that violinist is the best in this current era.

Ever since i watched my father's old vhs of the Israel Philharmonic 60th anniversary gala and was introduced to MV, i loved him. But it has been many years since it seemed obvious to me that he is the greatest violin virtuoso musician of this era.

This recording shows it clearly.

This, may just be the most beautiful, outstanding performance of Brahms I have ever heard. Mr. Vengerov, I have no words. May God give you all that you deserve.

I feel like I have been waiting my whole life to hear Maxim Vengerov to finally play the Brahms Violin Concerto like this. It has been worth the wait, because this is everything I hoped he might finally achieve, but then again so much more than I could have imagined. The long first movement is so iconic as always, but with this cadenza that Maxim plays, it really is a thing of great majesty and off-the-scale beauty to experience. I love the approach to the slow movement, faster than I would expect but so full of passion, it works so well with the orchestra. And the last movement...well it now feels as if it was written for Vengerov himself! Thank you for the many years you have continued playing. Our lives are so much richer for having you articulating what it is to be alive through playing the violin. Forever bravo to Mr. V.

WOW!Noone has the courage to play it this way . He canstretch a tempo no matter what today's purist say. Vengerov has researched the period! He knows even some of the earliest records don't take these liberties but this is really the expanseBrahms deserves!Mr.V really gets Brahms.Must hear him n the 3 sonatas!I'm mesmerized by the music in a way the light is there but the weight and austerity we always associate w Brahms in there to. Many say Brahms is not turgid and should be faster. Not Klemperer! So many qualities here I hope to keep finding.

Only 7 minutes in, and already loving it! He knows how to build up the tension, gradually but most certainly, playing for the long run, keeping us in suspense. Mr. Vengerov, I applaud you and thank you for sharing this.
God bless!

the interpretation I grew up with and fell in love with the violin was Oistrakh, now I'm still in love with Maxim's interpretation

Sublime playing, Maestro, but you've been perfectly matched by a conductor and an orchestra who are so on point as to be worthy of just as much praise. Wow, wow, wow.

The way Maestro Gabor was so focused and inside the music during the cadenza gave me goosebumps.

From Australia. I used to have a favourite recording of the Brahms, by David Oistrakh, and I never imagined that it would be surpassed, but you did it Mr. Vengerov!!! A truly AMAZING performance with passion and exhilirating technique, especially the first movement and the first movement cadenza! U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E!!! Also, much love and congratulations to Mr. Takacs-Nagy and the MAV Symphony Orchestra! Mr. Takacs-Nagy is such an underrated conductor!!!

Can it get anymore perfect than this? Yes, maybe. But more beautiful??? No. I don’t think so. You can hear the GPS going on in his brain- he knows exactly how, where, and when every note should be played. Then he allows them to play their roll in this fairytale performance. High praises to the orchestra, just outstanding, and last but not least to this fantastic conductor, who truly, truly understood Vengerov’s approach to Brahms.
