Achilles Rupture VACOped boot review by a physiotherapist

In this video, Orsi is comparing the Vacoped walking boot to other conventional CAM walking boots commonly used post an Achilles rupture (Aircast, LDK2 Air walker).

Orsi used the conventional boot for her recovery and is recovering really well, but retrospectively, if she was given the option, she would have chosen the Vacoped. Check out the video to find out why!

If you live in the Toronto area and in need of a VACOped boot, our clinic carries most sizes.

I've had mine a week I don't recall being told I could take sole off at night lol. Thanks for the upload.

My VACOped hurts the bottom of my heel so much.. it seems like there is no cushioning there and no amount of shaking the beads down to the heel makes much difference or lasts for long.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing. I also purchased a Vacoped on my own after a full a achilles rupture with surgery. I love what the boot can do already but mine feels like the beaded vacucast has too many beads in the sole portion of it for my foot to set naturally making it difficult. I know you can manipulate the beads before putting on & sealing but no relief. The bead pack also does not fully go under my heal or support it. I am a 10.5 in US mens size and ordered a medium as it indicated with one size to spare. I was curious how your experience was in that regard. Thanks so much.

Great video. How long after you first put on your boot did you put pressure on your foot? I have been in a boot for one week. Did not have surgery. Hoping I can begin walking with boot after 14 days.

Hi I seen that mentioned if you had to choose between the vacoped or air cast, you would’ve chosen the vacoped. Are patients allowed to choose which boot they prefer and be comfortable with? Thank you for your video.

I've been changed from a conventional boot to a vacoped today and I'm desperate to return to the 'airstep' boot.

My gait in the vacoped is awful, I'm already in more pain after half a day, i can't stand or walk with a straight leg and as the sole has no grip I've almost slipped over a few times already.
My other boot has very good grip and also felt far more stable ad tight on my foot- I think they've given me an overlarge vacoped as it feels like the whole boot is dragging down but I can't get it any tighter. I was given medium but as a UK 6 (US 8) I think a small would have been better- it seems huge and overly heavy. My other boot is sz small.

I'm actually going to need help from a friend to get it on and off as well. It's so complicated compared to the other boot- which I can remove and put on alone pretty easily.
The vacoped is basically disabling me. I had far more mobility before and didn't have to worry about potentially falling. I'm going to give it a few more days of 'giving it a try' (suffering) then call and ask if I can put my old boot back on.
