"Well, if it's just gonna be lying there" Most human thing I've ever heard...

I still remember when I first went to Ireland, I told the cashier at a convenience store to keep the change, which was only like 50 cents, and they were like "are you sure? This is a lot" and I was so confused because any cashier in the US would be like "ok"

I work at a pub in the UK and we're always extra nice to American customers cause they tip so much. I've had an American come back the next day just to give us a cash tip because we couldn't take card tips at the time and she had no cash on her, its crazy

In germany, it's not necessarily rude to give tips, but most people only give so much until the number is full. Like, if you have to pay 45, 60€, most people will pay you 50

Germans: **politely refusing tips**

Americans: **aggressively demanding tips**

I’ll share a secret: German waiters at high tourist places (like Hofbräuhaus) perfectly know about Americans and won’t fight over the tip. Also, they are definitely not underpaid there.

was at a restaurant with my dad (and some family members) at his birthday, he felt great and really liked the service, so he paid 20€ in tips on a 120€ bill, the waiter literally told him "you do realize that this is too much?" he then said that its ok and then she asked again if hes sure. its just rare to tipp that much here, because they actually get a decent pay.

In Ireland the server laughed a little before saying, "no really, we are paid well." If only American corporations could understand this mind boggling concept of paying their employees fairly 🤯

Haha I remember those times when I received tips from some tourists, I refused them kindly although some actually insisted. So I put them inside the cashier as I felt guilty for taking tips. Later on I learned that some countries tipped the servers and my boss told me its okay to receive them. Since then, I happily received the tips 😁

I think he missed an opportunity to blow the American's mind by simply saying "we aren't underpaid, this isn't America"

I remember trying to tip a taxi driver in Japan once and he got so hurt and insulted like I was trying to give him charity

The most German part was that he took the money laying around. There is little that annoys us more than things that just lay around and going for waste. That triggers us 😀.

I love when people from the US think that their bizarre problems are somehow common everywhere in the world. The other day, I was talking to this dude about schools, and he asked how are European school designed to protect students from school shooters, and I was just like... Why would that be necessary?
