Special Presentation: San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (I-80 West)

Welcome to this special presentation episode, celebrating the cantilever span that makes up the eastern half of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The span will soon be decommissioned and torn down, in favor of the brand new, single, self-anchored suspension span. To celebrate over seven decades of service to the Bay Area commuting public, and to offer historical footage of the span to future generations, FreewayBrent brings you this special, time-lapsed video. Reminds me great souvenirs when I was a long haul trucker! San Francisco is definitely one of the world's greatest cities. And great filming again which takes us really into the scene :)

One of my favorite stretches of road. The pavement coming out of the tunnel on Yerba Buena has evenly placed seams that make the car sound and feel like it's driving over a finely tuned washboard surface. The ride back to the East Bay on a winter night with a high wind would create an ethereal howling sound coming from the underside of my car.

Brent, great video.

If SF bound on a foggy night, the view of the bridge comin out of the bright tunnel into purple sky, yellow cloud -due to streetlight- with trees on the sides and the bridge disappearing into the fog - and sometimes the tower reappears on top of the cloud- just subline.

Eastbound, on the right coming out of tunnel is the entire EastSpan. If lucky, there's the moon to the right.

Too bad a picture is impossible. Want to walk the old span before teardown. Will miss it.
