Perhaps the single most daunting thing about trying to distill the history of the Bay Area into a few blog posts is the sheer volume of stuff out there — first-person accounts, histories, documentaries, websites — detailing the region’s past.

A big part of that story, of course, is how quickly a landscape we can scarcely imagine today was remade into the metropolis. Here, we attempt to give a glimpse of that process, from the earliest days of the Gold Rush to this morning’s stop-and-go traffic on the 101.

It’s sure gone thru some changes in my 65 years. It will always be home but I don’t get that happy vibe anymore.

No mention of the farming and ranching towns that were grew up all around the bay in the 19th century and were swallowed up by suburban housing tract in the '50s-'80s? Boo.

I got 4 guys to move with me to San Francisco, after Hs, graduation we went to the bus station and rented a house in SF, we always pooled our money so whoever was not working stayed home did the cooking and laundry we were glad to pitch in.

Interesting video I think they should do a video on the population growth of the eastern united states on how 250 million people live east of the 98th meridian line of longitude because as populated as California is the eastern united states has 5 time as many people from the 98th meridian to the Atlantic Ocean.

This "new gold rush" is making our housing prices harder for us natives living here. SF's small land area isn't meant to take in mass migration like Los Angeles, or New York. There's not enough space for the new people trying to fit in. Sorry.

Back in the 80s, microchips were being made in garages. Working in a downtown SF law firm, it was not uncommon I started my day talking to CEOs of new tech companies. They were smart and passionate about what they were creating. It was an exciting time. Family members who loaned money to early start ups became venture capitalists.

I grew up in Sunnyvale. My dad paid $29, 000 for the house. It was all pear orchards and hay and tomato fields. I worked in Cupertino when Apple stock was $1. I’ve been in LA 35 years now but the bay has a special place in my heart. Biden 2024
