It's not really that surprising when you consider that a lot of tech underlying the x86 architecture is patented by either AMD or Intel, to the point where no other manufacturer could ever enter the picture without licensing decades of R&D from both companies. Makes sense they're teaming up now that there's outside competition involved.

You gotta understand, RISC at first was mainly about faster, basic instructions going out at a lower power cost to the device and x86 being the only way to go for higher power tasks like gaming or productivity workloads. But then RISC updated their instruction sets and we're up at arm V9.2 now, while x86 updated to x86_64 and has never touched it since. Arm is optimizing for modern programming, so even in higher workloads, it's catching up.
