Thanks so much for watching! If you want to see more really bad radioactive ideas, please check out:

There is, fortunately, a follow-up video from thethoughtemporium that shows some additional Negative Ion products even worse than those depicted here. "Fortunately", because that video also has a section where he talks about how reports from him and his collaborator with the Electron Microscope resulted in some of these vendors being shut down by the NRC and a large number of Negative Ion products getting removed from Ebay.

Good news; the reason you haven’t heard of these is because that video you just watched was so concerning to nuclear regulatory agencies that Amazon was forced to crack down. There’s a follow-up video on similar products that were still on Amazon after that which could also be interesting.

For cases like this, I like to combine Hanlon's Razor, and Clarke's Third Law. That gives: "Sufficiently advanced ignorance is indistinguishable from malice."

Hey, you watched it! His second video on the subject is mainly about the response to the first video. He got contacted by the NRC and after some information gathering they dropped the hammer on a lot of these companies and put them out of business. Unfortunately more companies selling this stuff pop up all the time, though, so some of it is still getting into the country.

The best way that I'm understanding the difference between alpha, beta, and gamma particles is in terms of bullet types. Alpha particals are like hollow points, they lack penetrating power but will do some sersious damage. Beta particles are like regular bullets, they have decent penetrating power and will do a bit of damage. Gamma particles are like armor piericing bullets, they have a lot of penetrating power, but because they penetrate so well, they dont do a ton of damage as they go straight through.

I *really* wasnt expecting our favorite nuclear engineer with a little over 10 years of experience to tell us to stick a fork in a wall socket.

The negative ions just emitting from that tone was lethal lol.

Amazing video as always

Using a vpn, Japan and India still have a LOT of these... including maxi-pads for women. While I would love to assume most of these are not radioactive, without getting some to test, we could not be sure. The scary thing is that checking right now on Amazon US, there are actually a entire new trend of negative ion shapeware, otherwise known as nylon clothing with these dots of an unknown material on them. I am not equipped to test them, and telling you and TE, maybe Kyle as well, is about all I can do as one of those civilians you were talking about.

Thank you, Lee.

Products like this make me want to buy a Geiger counter to just have to see if I am being exposed to anything.

In his second video on the topic, he did actually mention he contacted the interested authorities, and along with Amazon had the listings taken down.

oh I have a few of those here, because of my mom and extended relatives were into this trend early in this "negative ion" thingy.

I knew it was a scam early on, was not wanting to be part of it, but was forced to.

I did wear the black necklace with that black circular thingy, almost everyday

I did stopped wearing it later on, until I found out the original video you reacted here.

Now I am trying to find them to make sure to put them in a proper container for radioactive materials

Imagine claiming your product makes water more wet when people still argue on whether or not water itself is wet....

11:20 small correction that photomultiplier tubes don't multiply light/photons directly, rather they have an initial photocathode which turns photons into photo-electrons before those are multiplied by the plates for detection

I know the term "wet water". It is used by people in modeling Miniature Terrain eg. Dioramas. Wet Water is basically regular water with few drops of dish detergent added. The Soap breaks the surface tension, allowing the water to penetrate materials used in modeling more easily, such as gypsum, garden soil, wood etc. Often it is mixed with PVA Glue, allowing the glue to form a stronger bond due to deeper penetration into the materials. The more you know 😊

Oh! The thought emporium, I was thinking of recommending his videos to you. May I suggest you watch him make a meat berry next?

Making water more "wet" is very common for your clothes washer, that is what they say is the purpose of the washing detergent.
Since water is a great substance to dissolve dirt and other things into, making it more "wet" so it can flow easier through garments and carry more dirt is beneficial.
Which by wetness is supposed to break the water's surface tension...
Of course there are other things in the washing detergent as well as enzymes, perfume and the like, but the wetting agent is probably the most important one.

I was wanting to get one of the pendants just to have a source for my Geiger counter, BUT i didn't know what the pendant itself was made from (not talking about the radiation source but the material of the pendant).

I didn't want to risk it if there was a possibility that it could transfer anything from the pendant by touch or if it was to break down and turn into a powder over time (ive had quite a few cheap and expensive things made from plastic where the plastic would break down and turn into power or would get brittle or transfer some material when you touch it). Dont want to have a powdered Alpha source as that could be all kinds of bad.

I just ended up buying one of those spicy business cards (its what i call those united nuclear Geiger counter test cards).

You should check out his follow up of this video! He actually managed to get the US nuclear regulatory body's attention
