Показать описание
Headlight / fire beetles (Pyrophorinii) are a group of bioluminescent beetles native to the new world. They are often considered the most bioluminescent insects currently known.

Luciferin, luciferase, and oxyluciferin are compound classifications and not specific to three molecules.

Woah! Click beetles are the best. You've always got the best information on arthropods.

I recently learned about these when I was reading an article about bat conservationist Merlin Tuttle, who you might be familiar with. Apparently he and his crew spent hours setting up cameras outside of this tree to record emerging bats, but some of these beetles showed up, and their light made it so that you couldn’t see the bats.

We have lightening bugs, well that’s what we call them in MD. First time seeing the beetles though, pretty cool, thanks for sharing.

Maybe cavemen used these bugs to see, and paint on walls miles deep in caves.
That would explain the lack of fire soot on the ceilings.

Question: why do we have fewer bioluminescent land creature things in the western part of the US?

If cavemen had EDC kits these would be in them lol.
