you can drop the "You're special" book. Tell Dogmeat to pick it up and pick it up yourself. Dogmeat will have an unused one in his inventory.

North east of sanctuary hills is a junkyard and a satellite station. The Junkyard has a fatman and one mini nuke hidden amongst the trash and there is also a deactivated sentry bot which you could kill for fusion cores or reactivate and send to a settlement. In between the junkyard and the satellite station is a downed vertibird with a levelled set of power armor. The satellite station itself has some decent loot, a magazine, and a raider boss armed with a minigun.

Edit: For more decent loot, go farther east until you see an elevated highway. Look out for some shacks and windmills on top of the highway. Save and go up to that area and kill the 3 gunners there. You will leave with 2 laser pistols, 1 hunting rifle, and 1 laser sniper rifle which is arguably the most powerful weapon in the entire starting area.

Also at the Water generator, there is a .44 Revolver, some ammo for it, a suitcase and some other extra and useful stuff like Radaway on top.

Also, at the robotics disposal ground, there are 2 fusion cores, one from an ammo box and one from a sentry.

Also at the robotics plant you can get two fusion cores. The inside the chest near the sentry bot, and by activating the self destruct sequence on the prototype sentry bot, it will drop a fusion core upon death.

Also the nearby Satellite Station has an extra mini nuke and a legendary radroach spawn, so save outside the entrance if you want to reroll your legendary drops.

At the generator place, if you climb up the ywllow thing there is aids and the skeleton has a gun and raiders are nearby, you can kill them easily
