And people actually tried to say "the market is in Korea, of course they only sell shades that cater to Koreans..." Suddenly, tan skin Korean doesn't exist in this world

It's exactly the same in Pakistan. We're a predominantly dark skinned nation, but we want to be light skinned so badly, we refuse to buy darker foundation. It's also like impossible to find bronzer because people refuse to "look darker."

this reminds me of how haechan of nct got called dark “jokingly” by his members and by fans too. but i know damn well if he stands next to me he’s gonna look the fairest person in the room. and my skin shade is natural / light natural. korean fair standard is sooo different

as an east asian, in korea and most other east asian countries the beauty standard is pale skin so they make light shades to represent that standard. but many of us have tan skin too (my father has very dark skin and he's east asian.) you cannot say that they are "only selling to koreans so that's why it's lighter." the reality is these brands are only marginalizing the asians who have darker skin.

The standardized system seems like a really cool and useful idea. This system with a very wide shade range and an additional system for diffrent undertones in the same shade would be a dream. Mabe have a number for the tone and a letter for the undertone

It sucks Korean brands cater towards extremely light skin or the standards, because the majority of Koreans are actually tan. Tan Koreans do exist! It’s only the standards that the brands market towards, which is unreasonable in my opinion. Almost every Korean I’ve met are just tan.

Some of the bigger brands have darker shades, like missha's goes up to 27 (sometimes)
I think this might be by design because Koreans societally aspire for milky skin and a lot of korean sunscreens are marketed as tone up creams.
In any case, your skin looks amazing!

The foundation looks really nice but your real skin tone is so much more alluring

all of yall saying that Koreans have only light skin. they don't. this is colorism yall not ready to talk about. this happens I all countries. even in my country where half of the population are literally dark brown, only the palest shades of foundationnare available. I'm light skinned with yellowish undertone, and I even can't find a shade to fit me because all of them are for the light, pink and pale skin. that foundation makes me look like a grey statue.

They don't expand the shades because no one in korea (or at least the vast majority) wants to look darker even if they are, they think the right shade of makeup is the one that makes you look whiter.

i grew up abroad being told that i look sick and honestly i felt so happy when i saw my shade being sold at the makeup store here in korea (im shade 17). i didn't realize how important it is to feel included in ways like this until i felt included. i hope korean companies start providing darker shades.

There are brands that offer darker shades. I bought shade #25 for my sister and use #23 myself. I believe Clio even used to have a shade #26

Korean makeup would be perfect for me, the lightest shades of foundation and concealer in most shops here are usually still to dark or the wrong under tone. 😭

I hate the lack of range, but the standardized shades is amazing! Imagine if they did both!

The one person who makes a dark makeup line in Korea would be rich. The first is usually the one who benefits until others see its value.

Annnnd that’s exactly why nobody believes me when I say I’m Chinese. All the skin bleaching products and photoshopping has people believing most Asian people are as white as this text is. There’s nothing wrong with being pale or tan. I just wish people would understand that we all come in a spectrum of colors.

It’s weird that in a lot of Asian countries light/pale skin is still a sign of beauty even to this day. They have a lot of whitening/lightening treatments and procedures, so their makeup shades are based on what the darkest Korean skin would look like after going through said procedures. That’s the beauty industry in Korea. It’s like selling tiny clothes for a size 0 expecting everyone to diet and undergo liposuction to fit in those tiny clothes.

Tip: Laniege has a range to 25 off the shelf, and u can book a colour match specifically for your skin tone. Super dark etc.
