I’ve no idea how safe my identity is right now, but someone used my home address on two separate occasions to buy a car and break the law over and over resulting in many tickets that have gone unpaid. The names are very clearly fake and thankfully, the second one was picked up by the police and I was informed that no further action was to be taken. However, it has been almost 3 years now and that first one is still affecting me to this date. I have confirmed with everyone necessary that this person does not exist and they’ve given written confirmation that it has been noted on their systems. But I still get dept collectors knocking on my door and threatening to take my belongings. And every time I prove that this individual does NOT live here, it gets passed on to the next debt collector. I’m hoping that this will finally go away at some point. 😩

the whole stealing childrens ssn to comitt fraud could easily be prevented by having the dob included in the ssn, thats how its done here in norway. our ssn starts with your date of birth, and has a unique combination of 5 numbers after that. so its not even possible to apply for loan or credit with the ssn of someone who is under 18

Luxembourg also has a digital ID service you can use for accessing government services, bank accounts, doing your taxes, logging into your workplace as a public sector employee etc.

There are different versions (Smartphone app, physical token, USB Stick ...) that are all based on two factor authentication

the 200 years imprisonment shows how biased the courts in the usa are, if he had stolen the data of a non-prominent person, the sentence would not have been so exaggerated (not only that it is ridiculous to sentance someone to more than twice as long as the lifespan of a person) no, it also shows how bad the American justice system is when it sentences someone who has only stolen some money to a longer sentence than a murderer
